Each month of the year is associated with a precious gemstone, known as Birthstones. Since the discovery of gemstones, they were believed to have some mystical powers which would help the person who wears the stone. The custom of wearing gemstones became popular in the 15th century, in Poland and spread to other parts of the world.
Over the years, different opinions were formed, as to, which was the actual birthstone of a particular month. Due to these confusions, in the year 1912, the Jewelers of America officially adopted a list of Modern birthstones, which is now extensively used in many countries.
We have listed the traditional and modern birthstones, according to the Gregorian calendar, along with the colors of the modern birthstones.
