Maintain Your Jewelry Efficiently

Jewelry Care

Jewelry is the most valuable asset and the most precious ornament to wear. It is costly, delicate and can suffer damage if proper maintenance is not taken. Environment, chemicals, sunlight and hard components can scratch and damage your expensive and delicate jewelry. Take care of your jewelry through simple and easy maintenance techniques.

Jewelry Maintenance:

Categorize the jewelry that requires periodic cleaning such as vermeil, gold plated jewelry, platinum clad, silver clad, gemstones, imitation pearls, etc. Gather all the maintenance information of each category such as the time between each cleaning and chemicals to use; so that you can take care of all the jewelry of same types, at the same time. Store each jewelry in such a way that they do not come in contact with each other. Wrap each piece in separate cloth or tissue paper; or store it in a separate compartment of jewelry box. Pearl jewelry is more sensitive and easily prone to scratches than any other jewelry, hence be cautious in that case.

Gold Jewelry Maintenance:

The higher the carat of the gold, softer is the metal. A gold jewelry of 9 K is much resistant to scratch and damage than a gold jewelry of 24 K. Gold jewelry once purchased, can be transferred from generation to generation. Here are some useful tips to preserve the beauty of gold jewelry.

  • Gold jewelry gets easily dented or scratched if treated roughly.
  • Chlorine is the worst enemy of gold, hence avoid chlorine contact with your gold jewelry. Be cautious at Jacuzzis and swimming pools as it contains chlorinated products.
  • Abrasives, acids and other household cleaning solutions can damage or weaken the finishing of gold jewelry.
  • Cover up or remove your gold rings while cleaning car or house.
  • Moisture, dust, makeup and perspiration can diminish the luster of gold if repeatedly contacted.
  • Constantly clean the gold jewelry with a cleaning solution such as sudsy. You can use lukewarm water to clean or get it steam-cleaned from your jeweler.
  • Dry and rinse it with soft cloth or chamois to maintain its shine and to avoid scratches.
